Secretariat

Hey Movie Lovers -

There is a great movie out there that I want to reccomend to you all. It's a Disney movie called Secretariat. It's an inspiring story about the greatest athlete of all time, a horse named Secretariat who won the triple crown back in 1973. It released last weekend and had a very soft opening which sends a message to the studios that audiences DON'T want to see inspiring stories. I hope we can change that trend a bit and the movie gains momentum this week.

Great performances all around, especially Dianne Lane and John Malkovich.

All Things Possible,
Chris

Have not had a chance to see Secretariat, but my mom did and said it was wonderful. I'm sure it will gain momentum just as the real horse did.

When I saw this video, I thought of this forum and the phrase All Things Possible. This man passed away this week and while I never have met him, he is an inspiration.

Hello to all the forum family from the land of falling leaves, Michigan…
Hey Mr. Director: Sorry I couldn’t resist that. Actually, I believe that audiences DO want to see inspiring stories. And, we of the forum look forward to seeing your inspiring stories on the big screen soon. While some filmmakers, such as Stephen Simon, had to wait 20 years for an inspirational movie to make a mark on our culture – such as his “Somewhere in Time” or “What Dreams May Come” – I believe in All Things Possible. And, we agree with you that if we make a loud enough noise up on our soap boxes, the movers and shakers of the movie industry will listen.
It would be interesting to see a list of all the movies the forum family, and our director, could list that qualify as inspirational cinema in the past five years or so. I bet we could come up with quite a list of movies. We have mentioned some of them on the forum before. Perhaps it would be fun to have a list of especially endorsed inspirational films…here on this website…films, endorsed of course, by the forum family.
We have not seen Secretariat, but look forward to it. I was thinking of the other horse movie, a classic that we loved…and heard reference to it on the radio the other day. I think I mentioned it before on the forum. Sea Biscuit. Yes, we loved Sea Biscuit. And I’m not a horse person, so much, but I do appreciate horse stories, because people who do love horses seem to have a spiritual connection with the animals, and that always appeals to me.
OK, that was my soap box moment!
As far as inspirational cinema, that depends on who is watching. I finally was able to watch Julie and Julia the other night, and to me, that is inspirational cinema. You could get an idea why from my blog on LivingstonTalk.com as I wrote about Julia Cameron’s new book, The Creative Life.
And often, the most inspirational stories are the real life stories, such as Dennis Murphy that Tim shares in the video clip. Tim, your video is so heartwarming, it brought tears to my eyes. That’s exactly what I mean about the spiritual bond between we humans and our animal friends. Animals can teach us so much. Your agility trials look like so much fun. Lots of hard work to get ready, but so fun to watch. Just amazing things you do. And the story is an inspirational story waiting to be told, I think. Perhaps you could write something about your friend.
I’ve started a little email inspirational thing of my own, called Angel in My Inbox – ATB Today…I’m sending to Forum Family and the Creative Spirit Workshop folks I met over the past couple of years. I’d love to share this video clip. And, if anyone is interested in a little daily inspiration (well, not always daily) about All Things Beautiful and All Things Possible “stuff”…my email address is sgparcheta@gmail.com.
Tanya, looking forward to your Secretariat reflections when you see the movie. Perhaps the Forum can be a Power Source (now where did I get that from?) for alerting the powers that be (hmmm) that we really DO want inspirational films.

My problem is that I like inspiring stories, but I don't like Horse Racing (lol)!

    Dave,
When are your shows again? On Detroit 187? I was sorry to miss last week.
And where can you see a clip, if there is one?:)

I don't care for horse racing that much either, but I can get inspired by the drama of the stories, as in Sea Biscuit, and Black Beauty and some of those other classics.

I do remember one horse racing thing I loved when I was a kid, and that was an antique metal horse racing game my grandma had.

My youngest brother is the one in our family who loves horses. He'd have been a cowboy, if he could have! Actually he loves acting, as you do, but never does community theatre, which I wish he would.

He's out in Wyoming now in law enforcement, which has been his career.

Thinking of Tim tonight, as I hear a big storm could be on the way.
Here we go again, round one for autumn-winter season?

ATB everyone, and ATP in the movies:) Sue

    Hi Sue
We survived the storms but there was a lot of wind damage to the area. I thankfully was spared.

On the horse racing front, I only get excited about it around the time of the Triple Crown starting in May. Then once it is over I go back to not being much of a horse racing fan. That is until last year during the Breeders Cup when then undefeated Zenyatta came from the back of the field to win the race. The first time in history a mare had won. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ud_XPH6Eix4

The 2010 Breeder's Cup is November 6th. The still undefeated Zenyatta (19-0) is poised to defend her crown. Am I excited....you bet! Even if she loses she is, in my opinion, one of the best that has ever been. So much a fan am I that our youngest dog is named Zenyatta.

Who knows, maybe in 30 years Disney will make a Zenyatta movie...?

    Tim...thanks for the report back:)
Glad you were spared. We were, too, until yesterday...AFTER the wind died down, the power went out for several hours. So it was out to eat for the evening;)

The new video clip and the story you have about Zenyatta is wonderful and fascinating. There is something All Things Possible with both of the stories you told us. What greater thing than to keep on keeping on with your dream and finally zooming ahead of the pack, coming from behind to win the race. It's a classic hero story, and in this case, I love it because it's a heroine! :)

Happy Halloween and Samhain wishes to everyone...and, oh yes, ATB on top of all that:) Sue

OK I know what ATP and ATB are, but what is ATD?

    Happy Halloween!

Hi Tanya, just happened by your note:) ATD is my third part of my
little affirmation trilogy. It means All Things Dreamable:) I think it's an inspiration from a dream study I did three years ago, but also a reminder to me of Disney magic:) as in I've been learning that Disney was right after all, when he talked about "a dream is a wish your heart makes."
And so, I have fun passing it along...always returning to the positive outlook in whatever situation I may find myself. Sometimes it's a challenge, but always I feel better and find joy in doing so. And....as you can probably tell, a large part of the inspiration comes from the ATP in the middle!:)
Waiting for Jaschenka's Swirly Woosh-Woosh wishes for Samhain and Halloween and All Saint's Day:) and sending out from me, too! Sue
