Go See This Movie.
Dear Friends:
"ROCKY BALBOA" is the type of movie making that made me want to devote my life to the entertainment industry. I hope you will see this movie and be reminded of the values and dicipline that makes a champion - as these powers are latent in each and every one of us. I don't honestly think that this is even the best movie of the year as far as the art of film making goes, but I believe it is well executed and has a magnificent script with a wonderful message. I believe it will resonate with you even if you aren't a sports fan. It's not about boxing, it's about our power to believe things into possibility.

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts about it.

Happy Holidays,
All Things Possible!
Chris

The only problem with it, I found, was the guy playing Rocky Jr.

    Hey Sage -

Thanks for writing in. I read that you turned down the role because of prior commitments with your Grindhouse Releasing company. Is there more to the story? I know that you played Rocky Jr. in Rocky 5 and it's perfect casting as you are Sly's son in real life. What didn't you like about Milo Ventimiglia's portrayal of the character?

    Hello Dear Forum Family,

I hope, you all had a good Christmas. I had a quiet one with my family and with lots of good food. My sister came up from Namibia (Africa) where she currently lives, so we don't see her very often and loved to have her here for Christmas this year.

Chris, thanks for the movie tip. However, I will have to wait a few weeks as the movie opens here not before February. But I'll let you know how I like it then. I do remember that I found the first Rocky movie very inspiring.

Another great movie which is perhaps a bit of an insider tip is "The Nativity Story". The trailer seemed interesting and it was a good cast, so my friend and I went to see it before Christmas and were surprised how much we actually liked it. It tells the story of how Maria grew up a normal and poor girl who had to marry Joseph against her wish and was quite scared by being chosen to be the mother of Jesus. The way they made the movie (camera work, music) reminded us a bit of Lord of the Rings. It's a bit of a road movie too, with their journey to Bethlehem. So, if you get a chance to see it, check it out and let me know how you like it.

My first movie of 2007 will be "Eragon", as I couldn't see it before because of my cold. I am very much looking forward to that as I loved the book. Hopefully the author (who is also called Christopher) will soon finish writing book 3!!!

All the best to you all and have a great start of the New Year!

    Big hugs,

    Ute

Happy New Year Chris, forum family, and welcome Sage Stallone...When Chris says "go see this movie," it must be inspiring, as Kathy said. He's right. It's a wonderful and, I would have to add, a "sweet film." As Chris knows, my husband and I are working to catch up with the world of films...not having spent a lot of time in the movie theater in recent years, we've a long way to go. But more and more we're realizing the power of films, and so the more we enjoy them...not just to view as entertainment, but for the effect they have on our lives. "Rocky Balboa" was just the movie we both needed to see on the eve of the New Year, as we both are facing an abrupt transition in our personal lives as 2007 begins. So thanks for the nudge, Chris! Interestingly, this makes the third boxing film we've seen this month...having seen "Million Dollar Baby" and "Cinderella Man" (the latter viewed with my husband's father, who boxed in the Golden Gloves back in those days and who recalled the fighters in the story...it brought back lots of memories of his early years). Ute...it's great to hear from you and get your movie input. Let us know about Eragon! Sending hugs and ATP wishes to all for a beautiful year ahead...Sue

Happy New Year to one and all!

Thanks for the movie recommendation Chris, I had been hearing mixed reviews about "Rocky" but intended to see it anyway and your endorsement just "sealed" the deal so to speak.

It's been an unusual holiday period for me as I usually see several movies between Christmas and New Year's but was so busy with family and other activities that I didn't get around to it! I plan to make up for that this coming year - even with my directing duties - as there seem to be a lot of good movies out now and several more on the way, and that's not even counting the big blockbusters opening this May (Spider-Man III, Pirates III, etc.) it should be a great 2007.

I hope all is well with everyone and Chris should I remind everyone to check out the new show on Lifetime, "Gay, Straight, or Taken?" The forum family will all find that one of the contestants looks very familiar.

Hi Dave...glad you had a great Christmas with your family. The time goes by so quickly! Our dad and kids have all gone...until we catch up with them in Florida in February..I don't think we'll ever catch up to you in movie watching! Meanwhile, I have to comment that I thought that guy on the dating commercial I glimpsed a couple of weeks ago looked exactly like someone we both know! Wonder when he was planning to tell us to watch! Wishing everyone beautiful fun times in 2007...Sue

    Hey Dave,
thanks for the tip about the show on Lifetime. They have the website up for "Gay, Straight or Taken" and you can see pictures of that familiar someone ;) as well as a short video clip. The show will be on next Monday at 8 and it seems there is a rerun the Friday after at 11. (Which incidently is the time slot Kieren's show Monarch Cove used to be in.)

You all, have a great first week of 2007!

    Big Hugs!

    Ute

Happy new year, dear Chris and forum family!

Glad to hear you all had good Christmas and holidays with your loved ones! I had a good Christmas with my mom and few but good friends who are my family; as this forum family is.
It's so true, Sue: the time flies away very quickly.

Chris, about your previous posts i loved your wise words about the receptivity of illnesses and thanks so much to you and Tommy for your kind words about my mom. I looking forward to seeing the movie “Rocky Balboa” when it will arrive in Italy. As it's about the power to believe into possibilities, it's certainly inspiring!

I enjoyed all your previous posts and beautiful greetings. Ute, glad to hear you are doing much better after that cold and Angi hope you will regain full mobility with your arm, soon.
Tommy thanks very much for your lovely thoughts; i really appreciated them! I'm very glad to hear you feel reborn; you're a sensitive, sweet, good guy and we love you, so like Ufuk Lara, said try don't leave us for too long. You know, this is the SuperChris Showerman Forum; a true wonderful family!

Thanks Dave for letting us know about that new show on Lifetime. Like Ute said, on their website they have posted pictures and a short but nice video clip. I had seen them and yes, i noticed how familiar that contestant looked :) He’s so nice and funny and has a very powerful, beautiful voice; he’s definitely a great, amazing guy! I’m looking forward to seeing more of him, hopefully a new video, soon! :)

Take care and hope you all have a wonderful 2007!

    Alex in Italy

    Hey Guys!

Happy New Year! Thanks for all your comments about Rocky Balboa. I feel that movies should inspire us in some way - even if it's just to inspire us to think. Incidently, last night our friend showed us a great (oscar winning) documentary called "When We Were Kings" about a very similar but real-life story of Muhammed Ali's comeback fight with George Foreman in Zaier. Very Powerful!

And yes that is me on the new Lifetime show "Gay, Straight, or Taken". We shot that last June thinking it was going to be a non-broadcast promotion for this new show idea. I was happy to do it as the show is set up to break down stereotypes and I'm all for that. Imagine my surprise when it turned into the pilot for the new series! Well I'm sure you probably already know which one I am but if not, be sure to watch on Lifetime Jan. 8th at 8pm.

    Take Care of Each Other!

    All Things Possible!
    Chris

Hi dear forum family, welcome back Tim!

Hope you all had a great first week of 2007.

My New Year's resolution is the same as last year's and also the same as Tim's: being a little more selfish. I already made a good start of it last year, but you quickly fall back into your routines and spend less time for yourself then you had set out to.

Also, for those who are interested: I finally got to see Eragon. I enjoyed it very much, though I have to say it would probably have been a better movie if it had been an hour or so longer. The novel is quite big, so they just touched the highlights and raced through the story which is a bit of a shame. Other than that, great photography, great acting, great music by Patrick Doyle, great computer animation for the Dragon and the most adorable baby dragon you will probably ever see. Sooooo cute!
So, I recommend seeing the movie AND reading the books.

Have a phantastic weekend you all and remember to do it for the Jazz.

    Big hugs,

    Ute

Hello forum family...great to hear from you Alex...and yes the time goes so quickly...already a week is gone in the new year. Hope it's been a supernova start-up for all! I know you'll love Rocky Balboa, Alex, and I hope to hear more from others about it, too.

Angi, hope you are getting bright blessings as you so thoughtfully send us! Ute...great to read your post about Eragon, but I could only pick one movie at the theater that day! But you have me convinced to see it...

Hello to Tom and Tim this month...and hope it won't be
Valentine's Day before we hear back!

Suppose the forum will be a-buzz after Monday! Best wishes Chris, with all the spinoff from the tv show...

All Things Beautiful this year to all...Sue

What's this - it's Tuesday and no one has commented on Chris' appearance on "Gay, Straight, or Taken" yet? I for one thought it showed Chris, and his personality, in a good light! I don't think I will be tuning in to the show regularly though (unless someone else I know gets on it) as it really isn't my kind of thing, but it was an entertaing diversion none the less.

But speaking of the topic at the top of the column, I haven't been able to get to any of the movies I hoped to yet - but am going to try hard to get to "Rocky" this weekend! I'll be happy to report on my thoughts afterwards.

    Take care everyone - ATP!

    Dave

Hey Dave, thanks for posting. I didn't want to post first because I was last the other day! Yes, where is everyone? We watched the show last night and thought Chris was great. It was definitely entertaining. My favorite part? Hearing our Chris sing! I've always wanted to hear him and now I have. Sure would be fantastic to find him headlining a musical someday!

Hoping to hear from more of the forum family...ATP wishes to all, Sue

    Hey dear Forum Family!
So good to see you're starting of the new year in such positive moods and thank you Chris for being our inspiration in that!
I'm just popping in to say it'll be quiet from my side for a short bit: we are going on our skitrip to Switzerland this Friday. I'm very much looking forward to taking the dogs for long walks in snowy surroundings. We'll be back in a good ten days so meanwhile take care you all and of course..Be Inspired!
