Heroes

Heroes

While studying my craft of acting, I had a wonderful teacher, Rick Walters, define heroes as follows:

A Hero is anyone who risks or sacrifices
in an effort to aide or better someone else.

I loved this definition because it was broad enough to encompass all of the real heroes in my life.  Parents, teachers, mentors - the list goes on and I'm sure you can name a few other  capacities that heroes have come into your life.

This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day in the United States - a time when we remember and honor the heroes who have served in the military.  I hope you'll take a moment to remember ALL of the heroes that have touched your life in some way (both military and civilian), and if you feel moved to do so, you can give them a shout-out here.

One of the heroes in my life is my brother, a man of truly great character.  He has overcome tremendous challenges to become one of the world's most fantastic fathers.  He is one of the best examples in my mind of courage, character, integrity, devotion, tenacity, and humor.  He continues to inspire me to be tougher than I am.  Thanks Sam.

All Things Possible!

Dear Chris, forum family, and Chris' family,

I'm always inspired by the heroes mentioned in this place, and always by your inspirations of Sam. I hope to meet him one day.

It's amazing how our heroes can influence us to be greater than we are. Words don't really suffice, but examples of All Things Possible shared here continue to resonate with us all, nudging us to be more and do more out in the world.

In gratitude on this Memorial Day, I add my salute to heroes everywhere who, by being true to themselves, bring out the best that is in us.

I'm glad I saw the posting today! ATB everyone...Sue

I just thought I would drift in and say that I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day. I am sure that this day will mean different things to each and every one of us.

Chris, what a great tribute to your brother. Courage, character and integrity....must be a family thing?

    Chris,
This is a very nice and thought provoking entry. Thanks - heroes do come in a wide variety, don't they? And the best part is that a hero can be "super" in real life without having powers and abilities beyond those of mortal men. We can all answer the call to be heroes in our own way, as your brother has, as Sue has by always living in an ATP/B manner, and as you have by following your dreams.

ATP with a big B for Sue!

I love this forum! Chris you are one of my heores. It's very touching what you posted about your brother. The wonderful people on this forum are also praise worthy, they help me keep the ATP attitude.

I am performing this Saturday at a nightclub for women. It will take all my acting skills to project what they want, but I think I'm up to the challenge.

Sue says, "I'm always in gratitude for the forum and for all of you!"

Tanya's right, and expresses beautifully what we all feel. Hope the nightclub event went well, and keeping you in our prayers for keeping on with your amazing flying!

Alex, so glad you are OK during all these major earth events over there.

Hoping for competition updates from Tim, more zany zoo stories from Lane, some news from the girls across the pond (hint, hint), and summer theatre updates from Dave. Thanks so much, Dave for your kind words. Now to live up to them!:)

Dave, have you seen Mitch Albom's play "Ernie"? About Ernie Harwell and at Fox Theatre this summer? Wish I could see it. But it is directed by our own Williamston Theatre's Tony Caselli, who is also acting for the first time in ten years in this month's WT play, The Understudy.

Speaking of acting, and directing, and producing and all that...look forward to a Chris update here, as well. Hope the summer brings all good and possible things to you. As Dave put it, we're inspired by you following your dreams...ATP always, Sue

Checking in.....I have SO MANY heroes/heroines, it would take a book to list them! Historical figures, fictional characters, human AND animals presently living as well as deceased--I am appreciative of them all. And try to live up to their standards. Reminds me of a prayer I read once--"Please God, help me to be as good a person as my dog thinks I am!" Zany zoo stories Sue? Do you really want to encourage me? Let's see....recently a lady coming through on our boardwalk in the Cypress Swamp exhibit where I work, asked me(as approxiametely a zillion people every day do) if our alligators are "real". Well, when they haul out on land to bask, and get good and dried, they DO look rather like cement statues--that and the fact that they just don't move much. But I assured her they were, indeed, "real". "Oh good" she replied "I'd have been very dissapointed if they hadn't been!" "Well ma'm", I felt compelled to reply, "I'm afraid you're going to be VERY dissapointed when you reach our DINOSAUR EXHIBIT!" (Ahem!)

    Lane,
I can see that you'd have zillions of heroes and heroines:). And, maybe a book is in order...say, about those zany zoo stories:). Thanks for posting one of them...and hope summer is starting out great with all those amazing peeps coming through your exhibits!
